Milan, 23 November 2011 - The 2010 Socio-Environmental Report is available today in the section dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility on the Coca-Cola HBC Italia site (www.coca-colahellenic.it), or via the new ad hoc www.lanostraricetta.it portal. The report summarises the principal activities carried out by the company in the context of sustainability in the work place, in market activities and the community.

Starting this year, we have entrusted the publication of one Socio-Environmental Report only to the web: a more effective and sustainable transparent solution and a strategic instrument that is better for circulating CSR subjects with its interactive and multimedia methods” – stated Alessandro Magnoni, PA&C Director - “Once again, the numbers confirm the success of our environmental policy whose objective is to continue the search for ways and means to reduce to a minimum the consumption linked to the manufacturing process. In the energy field alone, the company has invested 2.9 million euros in new machines and cutting edge technologies since 2008”.

This year, the seventh edition of the report is presented in a simple infographic format that is easy to consult and gives the outstanding results achieved by Coca-Cola HBC Italia in terms of energy and water consumption and reduction in greenhouse gases. In the three-year period 2008-2010, energy consumption was reduced by 10% per litre of beverage produced and 19.7% per litre of bottled mineral water, with a 23% reduction in the water used for the production of each litre of bottled water and 1.4% per litre of beverage produced. 98% of the waste produced by the manufacturing cycle was recycled.

In 2010 and 2011, Coca-Cola HBC Italia focused attention on alternative energies together with the energy development company ContourGlobal, investing 17 million euros on installing solar panels in its seven production facilities which will permit a reduction of 11,500 tons of CO2 per year, when the project has been completed. The solar panels will produce 5MW of power which can be utilised directly in the production sites, any surplus being sold to the national grid. To diversify the supply, 31 million euros were also invested in the operation of cogeneration plants: 21 million for the Nogara (VE) production unit which came on line in June 2010, producing a reduction of 66% in CO2 emissions and increasing energy efficiency up to 83% compared to traditional systems. 10 million euros were invested for the installation of the new plant in the Oricola (AQ) facility, which will come on line half-way through 2012.

Coca-Cola HBC Italia’s activities in the socio-environmental context have involved the company in the promotion and organisation of a number of initiatives for incentivising an open and constructive dialogue with the employees and stakeholders and the surrounding community. 112 events were organised with the participation of 1,722,600 people and 364,932 litres of beverage distributed; 98 humanitarian associations have been supported and 146,859 cases of product donated and the company has collected 410,000 euros for the opening of a multifunctional student centre in Abruzzo.

In 2010, the focus of the socio-educational activity “missione ecoTribù”, dedicated to the younger age group, was the subject of recycling. 4,300 copies of the book “Inspector Closet and the recycling tribe” were distributed in the schools and the play “The Recycling Tribe” will tour Italy throughout 2012 while the travelling educational exhibition “An impact to be contained” relating to the reutilisation of packaging materials has had 5,500 visitors. The initiatives to increase the awareness of employees on road safety will continue in the coming year and will include an avant-garde project entitled “On the right road” in collaboration with the Traffic Police, as will the “Total Quality Day”, when there is no production and the time is dedicated to in-depth discussion of subjects linked to product quality, protection of the environment and personal safety.

The www.lanostraricetta.it communication activity will be supported by sending 100,000 promotional postcards to company stakeholders. In addition, by connecting to the portal, it will be possible to participate in the competition “The recipe is not a total secret” from today to December 18 and win beautiful Coca-Cola prizes.
