Acqua Lilia, the nature lover
700 fewer tons of CO2 and plastic consumption reduced by 300 tons every year with the new 2 litre Acqua Lilia eco-friendly bottles on sale all over Italy
Milan, 12 October 2009 – From this autumn the 6 x 2 litre packs of Acqua Lilia, the mineral water produced by Fonti del Vulture, a bottling company acquired by Coca-Cola HBC Italia and Coca-Cola Italia in 2006, will be eco-friendly.
Founded in 1896 and firmly rooted in the local community of Rionero in Vulture, in the province of Potenza, Fonti del Vulture operates using cutting-edge technologies. All waters produced stand out for their high quality and distinctive personalities to satisfy different needs and tastes.

Thanks to a reduction in the amounts of plastic used and to a 21% smaller label, the new 2 litre bottles, on sale in large retail outlets all over Italy, weigh 6 grams less than current packs, down from 40 to 34 grams, hence 11% lighter. The lightness of the new 2 litre bottles will consent a reduction in CO2 emissions of 700 tons per year and in plastic consumption of 300 tons. |
“The new eco-friendly Acqua Lilia packs are made of recyclable materials and are the latest in a long line of initiatives by means of which we intend to reaffirm our commitment and constant attention to environmental care”, says
Alessandro Magnoni, General Affairs Director of Coca-Cola HBC Italia. “If we want to contribute towards reducing the impact of industrial production on nature, we cannot ignore the problem of disposing of the huge quantities of waste that are produced every day in bottling processes”.
“Coca-Cola has always been synonymous with innovation, a vital element for any company that wants to keep up with the changing times, and as regards environmental sustainability we make no exception. New options are constantly being tested and new research carried out to reduce the use of raw materials”, adds
Sara Ranzini, Communications, and External and Institutional Relations Manager of Coca-Cola Italia. “We are working to ensure that sustainability becomes an integral part of our decision-making processes. This means making the right choices here and now so as not to leave a negative inheritance for future generations”.
In support of this initiative, up to the end of October posters will be placed in POSs and postcards slotted into the packs.
