“Missione ecoTribù” 2009: 500 new trees and cleaner beaches in Basilicata and Campania
Two important environmental protection initiatives will get underway on Thursday 1 and Saturday 3 October
Milan, 23 September 2009 - Coca-Cola and Fonti del Vulture (PZ) have planned two important environmental protection initiatives, for the first week of October, as part of project “Missione ecoTribù” .
500 new trees will be planted on an area of more than 10,000 square metres on Thursday 1 October, in the municipality of Rionero in Vulture, in Basilicata.
This initiative is the follow up to the great success enjoyed last year when 600 trees were planted on an area of 15,000 square metres.
The initiative is sponsored by Basilicata Region, the Municipality of Rionero in Vulture, the Confederation of Industry in Basilicata and will by carried out with support from the National Guard and the State Forestry Corps. Hundreds of primary schoolchildren will take part in the event.
In the municipality of Bacoli (NA), close to Naples itself, Saturday 3 October will see the start of a major operation with the aim of cleaning up beaches along the coastline in the Naples area.
The “beach clean-up” has been organised with the support of Campania Region’s Department for the Environment, the Municipality of Bacoli and the Bidonville Association. It is a new venture and will involve all local people, schools, voluntary associations and Coca-Cola employees who wish to show their support.
Both events have been organised as part of the “Live Positively Week”, a week of events promoted by Coca-Cola worldwide, between 28 September and 4 October, with the aim of increasing awareness among local communities on the issue of environmental sustainability.
